I've been toying with the idea of laminating .02" (ish) CF into my main X-brace, vertically, a la Mario, mostly for the purposes he describes in various old disucssions on the OLF: decrease set/memory effects. EDIT: make that old discussions on the MIMF, actually. I'm wondering how many folks use CF like that, how many cap the braces themselves (a la Turner, or Smallman), and where exactly all of these reinforced braces go. Is just the X enough to help combat future bellying? Or should the tone bars and finger braces get the same treatment? What about back braces? And what glues are people using for laminating (polyurethane, epoxy, CA..)? Inquiring mind wants to know (although given the fact I'm off to drive across a few national borders from tomorrow, I may not actually respond to this thread until, well, Sunday) |

I am also considering this for my next two, and have another question to throw into the mix: I know this stuff is h*ll on chisels and the like, and that folks using it mostly pre-shape their braces. Does this completely trash a bandsaw blade or a carbide router bit? Should I buy a junker blade just for this purpose? -Mark |
